16APSS Polymer Summer School

The CRC-P has been supporting the education of early career scientists for over 15 years with its annual Australasian Polymer Summer School, also supported by the RACI. Now in its 16th year, the 2015 Polymer Summer School was held at Monash University in early February with 50 attendees drawn from academia and industry. The aims of the Polymer Summer School are to broaden polymer education in Australia, increase the level of cross-fertilisation in Australian polymer science and engineering, and to provide a strong theoretical introduction for new researchers.

This year the event also received sponsorship from Perkin Elmer and Thermo Fisher. The guest lecturers and topics were:

Associate Professor John Forsythe and Professor Neil Cameron: Polymers for regenerative medicine and bio nano-technology

Professor Marcela Bilek and Dr Aleksey Kondyurin: Plasma-based modification of polymer materials for applications ranging from biomedical to space

Professor Greg Qiao: Toward the polymeric platform technology development

Professor David Mainwaring: Biopolymers: their microstructures and functionality

Professor Bronwyn Fox: Polymers in carbon fibre precursors and composite materials
