The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
Research Organisation (CSIRO) is Australia's national science
agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies
in the world with more than 6500 staff located across 56 sites
throughout Australia and overseas.
Headquartered in Canberra, its research is performed across the Nation and overseas. It is
involved in more than 740 research activities working with
leading scientific organizations in over 80 countries with
partners and customers ranging from foreign governments, small
companies to large multi-nationals and international facilities.
CSIRO has established ten National Research Flagships in the
areas of Climate Adaptation, Energy Transformed, Food Futures,
Future Manufacturing, Light Metals, Minerals Down Under,
Preventative Health, Sustainable Agriculture, Water for a
Healthy Country and Wealth from Oceans, to address the national research priorities. The agency
also manages three National Research Facilities: Australian
Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) at Geelong; Australia Telescope
at Parkes, Coonabarabran and Narrabri; and the oceanographic
research vessel Southern Surveyor.
